Alessandro Giuseppe Antonio Anastasio Volta had a very long name. He is also credited with having invented the very first battery back in 1800. Officially categorized as a voltaic pile, or an electrochemical cell, this introductory battery consisted of a stack (or pile) of two different types of metal electrodes, copper and zinc, with an electrolyte of sulfuric acid wedged in between the metals, acting as a conductor of electricity. Consequently, for this profound and remarkable achievement, Volta had the measurement for the force of electrical current named after him (Volts, obviously), has National Battery Day celebrated annually on his birthday, and has us, the employees at Batteries Plus Bulbs, frequently praising him for our jobs!
Suffice to say, for us, National Battery Day is a big deal, but it’s also pretty noteworthy for anyone else who relies on a cell phone, laptop computer, tablet, mp3 player, car, backup power supply, watch, garage door opener, remote control or any other of the countless number of battery-powered items in the world today. Ever stop to think about how many battery-operated devices you use throughout the course of the day, and what you would do without them? I know, it’s not a pleasant thought.

Even though most people wanted to listen to this music at the gym, they wouldn’t be caught dead singing along to it there (8%), or at work (5%), while pretty resoundingly, people felt comfortable jamming-out in their cars to it (63%); 14% sing in the shower, and 10% sing in the rain (or somewhere else in the outdoors)
So, on this National Battery Day, as we get fired-up listening to our favorite inspirational music on our lithium-ion battery-powered devices, or in our SLI battery-powered cars, let’s remember the important contribution of Mr. Volta in our lives.
