Back in 2012, when the Corpuses were looking for a business to own and operate together, they were well aware of the challenges they would encounter. In order to succeed, they knew they would need to find a business that would satisfy a need for its customer-base and evolve over the years to come. Regardless of their lack of experience with batteries or light bulbs, they knew that investing in this franchise was the right choice for their future.
“Without reinventing the wheel, we were able to open a business and hit the ground running. With my experience in building business relationships and Jennifer’s skills in managing finances and budgets, it was the ideal scenario for us to work together. Product knowledge was the only thing we were lacking, and with the tremendous support from the franchisor, we were able to get the training needed to get us up to speed right away,” says Eros.
Both Eros and Jennifer were born in the Philippines and moved to the United States as children. Overcoming the adversity of being an immigrant without command of the English language was a major challenge they both conquered while growing up. Today, they rely on the strength of the bond they have created, joining forces to continue tackling obstacles in their lives and business. This ability to work together towards a common goal is something they also look for in their employees.
Being located a half-hour outside of the city, we’re in the most expensive market in which to conduct business in the country. And being one of the first Batteries Plus Bulbs stores in this area, we need to educate consumers on who we are and what we do. Once we do, they’re very glad they found us.” – Eros Corpus
A good example of this is when we assisted a woman with a broken cell phone. Within thirty minutes we had her phone battery charged to where she could use it again. We did this for free, and as she walked out of the store she got choked-up when she told us that now she would be able to access the photos on her phone of her father who had recently passed-away. These are the types of problems we love to help solve for our customers.
“We hire for the long-term. We treat our staff like family, and we want them to appreciate being part of a team that cares about one another. We feel it’s important to communicate with each other and hang out together outside of the store and do fun things. We have had very little turnover, and we all enjoy collectively working to solve all of our customers’ problems on a daily basis.”
Recently recognized in Westchester County’s “40 rising stars under 40”, Eros looks forward to more Batteries Plus Bulbs stores coming to the region. Building off the reputation his store has already established over the past (almost) two years, increased brand recognition will further enhance the success of the business. Until then, he’s content to continue steadily growing his customer base by converting them one at a time.
“The potential for this business is tremendous, and we continue to trend in the right direction. As long as we continue to do ‘the right things, the right way’, our customers will remember us and spread the word. It’s happening already.”
Setting up shop in the town where he grew up, Eros Corpus chose to invest in his local community. Along with his wife and child, they are living the American Dream. And just outside of the biggest city in the country sits their store, which offers products and services that everyone needs. With their superior customer service and product expertise, it’s safe to assume that rapid prosperity is just a New York minute away.
