Here’s a friendly reminder to avoid sure embarrassment this holiday season, like the over 20% of consumers who will fail to buy batteries for the battery-powered products they give as gifts. According to the recent “Toys’R’Us Holiday Battery Quick Survey”, most people say they don’t buy batteries to go along with their presents because: 1) they think they are included, or 2) they just plumb forget to get them amid the hustle and bustle of the season. Unfortunately, neither of these excuses will likely fly with a child who has just received a remote-control car on Christmas morning and can’t play with it until his parents get him batteries at one of the only stores open on Christmas Day. SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE Despite the fact that you would think manufacturers would now include batteries with products to solve this nagging problem, many of them still don’t. After all, when it comes to maintaining their bottom-line, batteries are often considered too expensive to include with toys and other devices. And, with regard to toys, even if they do include batteries, they’re likely to be very poor quality, only able to provide enough power to make the toy work just long enough to try it in the store, buy it and take it home; dying when they’re needed most. STOCKING UP ON HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES When it comes to getting alkaline batteries (and one lithium option) that will last for hours of operation in these holiday gift applications – AAs, AAAs, Cs, Ds, 9-volts, etc. – here’s a breakdown of options: KEEPING THE HOLIDAYS HAPPY BUTTON AND COIN CELL BATTERY SAFETY – The holidays should be a happy time of year, not hindered by a small child inadvertently swallowing a tiny battery. Pay attention to all of the musical books, cards and toys that use these batteries, and be sure to make yourself aware of the safety precautions associated with little ones and their potential access to these little cells.
